What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Many patients with dentures struggle with loose-fitting dentures that become uncomfortable and inconvenient to wear while eating, speaking or smiling. If you are interested in a more secure and sturdy fit, our Glendale periodontist may recommend implant-supported dentures! Implant-supported dentures are very similar to traditional dentures; the main difference is that they are anchored in place by dental implants.
Implant-Supported Denture Process
Dr. Malek will first place the dental implants, which are screws made of titanium that are surgically placed in your jawbone and will act as support for your dentures. The number of implants placed depends on your situation and the condition of your smile, but most cases usually require around four to six implants per denture for best results. Once the jawbone has healed and has been allowed to bond with the implants, your dentist will place the restoration. Your denture will be attached to the top of the implants. The implants can provide stability and increase your comfort while wearing your dentures. It can help your smile feel more natural and make everyday functions feel effortless.
